Sneak peak to what's coming

Hi everyone, here's a little pic of what I've been working on. As you can see, that is actually a whirlwind. I also have two rhinos as WIP and my two tact squads are coming along. I am currently focusing on the whirlwind. It's base-coated and I'll be painting the interior later today. I plan on magnetizing it to be able to switch the missiles. I'm still wondering on the paint scheme, but for now, I'll try a darker blue in the recesses, a liter coat on the armor plates and a very light one for the highlights.

The Screaming Eagle

Here it is. I actually pinned it with the longest straight part on a paper clip so I had to drill inside the whole thing. It all went smoothly thankfully and everything is now glued in place. by comparison it is more or less the same size as a normal thunder hammer, for the hand and handle I used the second part of the 2-handed Blood Angels thunder hammer.

Back from holiday update

Alright I got back from holiday last week and got my battleforce and my captain. A had a fair amount of work/stress up until now so I didn't finish everything. I did clean out everything, undercoated the legs and glued all the torsos tonight.

I also started making the Screaming Eagle, which is a custom made thunder hammer build from the parts of a hunter-killer missile. The missile itself has been locked inside the launcher and stuffed with a energy field generator and a small turbine. It was made by the locals of the planet the Frozen Angels are for now settled on (still need to find a name) as a gift (I guess it'll be by the breakers or the clan master to show off his crafty skills). When used, the hammer is propelled at high speed by the turbine straight to the enemy's face, letting out a piercing screech in the process. Rules wise, it is the same as a thunder hammer and is used in the left hand by my captain (need a name as well) for some dual-hammering action.

Also, wings.

Paints and Bitz - Part 8

Yay the wonders of magnetization! I'm using 3mm wide for 1mm high cylinders and it's perfectly what I needed. Just had to drill in a bit and add a drop of glue. Be wary while drilling to go slowly and carefully and do not forget to drill a smaller pilot hole first. The shoulders may get damaged by the heat and/or mechanical action so do not hesitate to finish the holes with files or some other tool!

Battle Rep! The Dark Vengeance: World Eaters -VS- Dark Angels. Round 1

There comes the first battle of our group in the 6th edition. It was just a first look on the rules and the game flow. We reserved a table at our local hobby shop but sadly I didn't take any pictures (not that you'd want to see half undercoated armies). We took turns playing and got around most of the basic rules. We played around 5 rounds and sticked to shooting. The termie's assault cannon did wonders as did the plasma canon on the Dark Angel side. On the chaos side, the hellbrute sniped out several termies with it's twin-linked lascannon. The heavy bolter almost killed the Dark Angels bikers by itself, being killed in the past round by a lucky bolter shot. Props to the Chaos Lord for taking a whole salvo of terminator fire (including the S6 AP4 heavy 4 assault cannon) and not only surviving it with one wound but also covering the whole chosen squad with his 2+ armor save for no causalities, yeah just because.

No frozen angels on the battlefield this time around as they are still getting unfrozen (wortspiel!) and will not fight before their captain is ready for battle. Also i still have some fanfic to finish and publish before getting into any fights. On another note, I just received my magnets and I undercoated my bases so I'll finish building my tactical squad tomorrow and hopefully finish painting them by the week end.

Paints and Bitz - Part 7

There is a picture of the base I did a while ago. It is now dry and ready to be painted. I also finished the bases for my tactical squad. It should be all dry tomorrow so I'll be able to paint all of them. By the way yes, I am still waiting for my battleforce but I bought a tactical squad so I'll be building it. Hopefully I'll get my magnets soon enough to finish it by the end of the month, along with a second tactical squad and an HQ. I've got a bit of fun conversion planned for the HQ so stay tuned!

(3rd and 4th pic are a comparison between a flat type tactical base on the left and a hill type assault base on the right)

[Edit]: Son now we're next morning and it's all dry as shown in the last pic.

Paints and Bitz - Part 6

Here are some more random pics after cleaning, drilling and glueing. Here I set it up on a cork piece so it's ready for basecoating.

(Sorry for the blurry autofocus but you get the idea)

Paints and Bitz - Part 5

Here are some quick pictures on the bases I'll be doing for my marines using cork plates. I cut them down to small panels matching the base size and I use the small bits to make little rocks. I'll let the PVA glue dry and then post some more pics. Ideally I'll try to make a PVA snow layer covering the rocks with a bit of citadel snow on top of it. We'll see how it turns out.

Paints and Bitz - Part 4

Here I go! I start by cutting down the spruces in smaller sections so I don't damage any detail by bending around the injection paths of the miniatures. Although more time-consuming than just doing it normally, I want to be a 100% sure I won't get something screwed up, I'll get all the excess down later anyways as I'll be removing the mold lines.

Paints and Bitz - Part 3

Sorry for the wait, here I come with my first batch of spruces: an assault squad!
Now you might scratch your head about me starting out with an assault squad (and not classic troops i.e. a crusader squad), well that's because I actually have a battleforce shipping straight from the US at the moment and it might take a little while. As I'll get 5 assault marines in the battleforce anyway and I needed you get something to work on in the meantime, I got the assault squad to get a full 10 man one. Also I am in a dire need of chainswords and bolt pistols as I will pretty much turn each of my crusader squads into a full foot slogging 20 man melee mob. As I don't have enough chain/pistols right now, I'll actually magnetize the arms of every initiate and give them bolters for now, as melee squads are too expensive for the 500 points games we'll be playing anyways and so I can swap out the bolters for chain/pistols later.

Anyways I'll first open the assault box I just got and examine it a bit.

Log entry # 00.01dm.01.001

The winds were strong that night. The massive ice bearing waves of the blizzard crushed against my lone silhouette on the snow dunes, each new wave planting its frozen talons deeply into my skin. I had disregarded the chances of my bike breaking down in the middle of the sunset valley. It is usually safe in the day and one of the best places to see Mithral and Arthroth set. Through the night, it is safe to drive through usually, as spirestalkers do not delve this far into the plains, but the cold alone is a mighty foe. Thankfully I was not so far from Breaker's Cove and knowing it, my steps were assured.

I might have been walking through the snow for two imperial hours, when I noticed a strange glow below me. Under my feet, under the snow, a piercing blue light came from the ice-covered ground. I stepped back and looked at the spot I was just a moment ago. The snow had somehow melted leaving the glass-like floor perfectly clean, besides the light blue hue it was emitting. A bright flash blinded me and then, the darkness took over what it was due. While still questioning what had just happened, I began running on my way to the Cove.

When I arrived home, father threw his usual questions at me. Where was I? Did I see the time? What happened to my bike? I myself wasn't sure. My cheeks were frozen by the tears my eyes had to fight the blizzard with. All that mattered for me now was to figure out what was this light back there. I told him everything, and requested that we go investigate with the breakers. Father turned the idea down. "You need to get some sleep now sweetheart, I'll discuss it with the breakers tomorrow" he said, placing his big hands on my shoulders. One would be amazed at the soothing power a bear-built man can have, and so I just went to sleep.

(Stuff happens)

Just a quick post on the paints I received, GW forgot to put a label on the mephiston red paint. It's ok, stuff like that happens, just remember to keep the order summary to check the goods, and label accordingly.

Paints and Bitz - Part 1

So yesterday I received my paints and some tools. I'll put up a list of all my tools later for anyone interested, hopefully with pics. I'll also discuss the paint scheme more deeply.

For now, a list of the paints:

Citadel Base:

- Macragge Blue
- Balthasar Gold
- Khorne Red
- Zandri Dust
- Mephiston Red
- Caliban Green
- Celestra Gray
- The Fang
- Mechanicus Standard Gray

Citadel Layer:

- Altdorf Guard Blue
- Calgar Blue
- Runefang Steel
- Dawnstone
- Gehenna's Gold
- Evil Sunz Scarlet

- Screaming Skull
- Wild Rider Red

Citadel Shade:

- Drakenhof Nightshade
- Nuln Oil
- Agrax Earthshade
- Carroburg crimson

Citadel Dry:

- Etherium Blue
- Necron Compound

Also some Hobby Snow (I'll search for an alternative later if need to)

That may seem like a pretty huge list for painting a scheme with 3 main colors, but keep in mind I'll be painting lots of details including the complete interior of every vehicle and their command consoles (I will magnetize the access hatches) and I'm also thinking of variations on the scheme to represent the different squads/ranks.

More on this later.
